CONTACT: Meredith Spresser, Public Relations & Marketing Manager, (863) 688-7743 ext. 235, MSpresser@PolkMuseumofArt.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 1/5/2009 Learn About the Business Side of Being a Fine Artist at Polk Museum of Art Workshop Start a new year and jump-start your art career with award-winning artist and art instructor Ryan Bailey as he reprises his popular half-day seminar "The Business of Fine Art: Making Your Creativity Profitable" at Polk Museum of Art, Saturday, February 7, from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. This informative workshop will cover the basics for the artist or artist's representative emerging into the world of professional fine arts: self-promotion, pricing artwork, artist's resumes, portfolio and image presentation, artist's statements, press-releases, booking exhibitions, etc. The presentation is designed to help working artists get the edge in a highly competitive market. Bailey's experience includes over two decades as a professional artist and over 15 years teaching on the college level. He has taught drawing and design at Florida Southern College in Lakeland and painting at Ridge Art Association. He has had numerous exhibitions and his work is found in both public and private collections. Bailey is an art reviewer and the editor of Art-i-facts Magazine. His views on art as a profession were featured in the book Careers in Art by Blythe Camenson. The seminar will be held Saturday, February 7 at Polk Museum of Art in Lakeland. The hours of the seminar/workshop will be from 10 a.m. (sharp) to 3:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. Participants are encouraged to bring images of their work (if available) and materials for note-taking. Pre-registration is required, and is now available. The cost for the seminar is $ 60 for PMoA members; $ 75 for non-members. Space is limited so sign up early. The deadline for registration is February 3, 2009.
