Stetson, has been accepted to attend the Museum Leadership Institute (MLI), which is the foremost professional development program for senior museum executives. This program of the Getty Leadership Institute and Claremont Graduate University will be held July 10 - 29 at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. "I am thrilled to have been selected as a participant in the Getty Leadership Institute's program this summer," said Daniel E. Stetson, Executive Director of the Polk Museum of Art. "It is an honor to be able to attend this program, and I am looking forward to learning about the best ways to lead Polk Museum of Art into the future and to the next level." The MLI program is designed to enhance the leadership capabilities of experienced museum senior executives, and is only open to those who have at least five years of intensive leadership experience in a museum setting. The program also helps attendees strengthen their institution's capabilities. Admission to MLI is competitive, and only 35 participants were accepted this year. The Museum Leadership Institute, now in its 32nd year, was first offered in 1979 as the Museum Management institute in Berkeley, California under the auspices of the San Francisco-based Art Museum Association of America (AMAA) and the University of California Extension. Since then, the program has been assumed and administered by the J. Paul Getty Trust, and it has evolved over the years to remain relevant to current thinking in the museum field. Since its inception, the program has served over 1,000 participants from the U.S. and 30 countries worldwide. This year’s MLI group includes senior leaders from some of the world’s most prominent museums, including the National Museums of Science and Industry in London; the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, both in Washington, DC; and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Those selected include international museum leaders from Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Scotland, Portugal, and China. # # #
